Amalgam & Dental Fillings in Brighton
Dental Amalgam is the traditional silver-coloured filling with which we are all familiar. Although there is mercury in Dental Amalgam, once it is combined with the other materials in the amalgam alloy filling its chemical nature is changed rendering it harmless. Research into the safety of Dental Amalgam has been carried out for over a century and to date, no trustworthy evidence based controlled studies have found a connection between amalgam fillings and any medical problem.
Whilst tooth coloured fillings are becoming more popular, amalgam fillings represent a durable and long-lasting form of filling, as does gold, which is a greater investment. There is still a role for Dental Amalgam and gold as the materials of first choice in some clinical situation, where nothing will do the job better. However, at SmileWorks we always endeavour to use the best modern aesthetic materials whenever possible and are happy to discuss the individual options available to clients who would prefer to have their amalgam fillings safely removed and replaced with long lasting cosmetic alternatives.
